A small step forward.
Companies can now pay to have their foods certified that they are GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) free. Read the complete article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/14/usda-gmo-label_n_7284544.html
This is great step… sort of. Well at least a step in the right direction. Yes, this is a step in informing people of what they are doing…but it is still so backwards. Why do companies have to pay to be able to say their food DOES NOT have GMOs instead of requiring companies producing GMOs to list their actual ingredients? So backwards!!!
It is insane.
Don’t get me wrong, I like this. I absolutely love any step taken that provides us with the information we need to make informed decisions on what we put in our bodies. However, this really pisses me off. I am pissed because to me, this issue, above many others, blatantly illustrates how significantly industry controls regulation and politics that can directly influence all of our health. There, I said it!
So yeah… I’m pissed! I’m completely pissed off that big business has so much influence on our lives and most of us don’t even know it.
It feels good to honor and own my rage!
Look, I don’t want to be pissed off. I don’t want to believe that greed and special interests have taken over aspects of our lives. I really don’t. I would love go to sleep tonight knowing that our regulatory agencies are protecting us. I would love to trust that surely there is no way anyone or anything could get away with doing something that was hazardous to the public’s health. I would love to feel that those in charge actually care about our children and are taking every step possible to ensure my daughters are not bombarded by harmful toxic products… or at least we were warned about potentially harmful products.
I would love to believe we are given all the information we need to make the best decisions we can for ourselves and our families. I would love to believe that our elected officials are governing for the people and by the people and not for profit margins of special interest. I would love to feel my family and I are safe. Yes, I would love to believe all this, and I’m sure you would too. But I simply don’t.
Perhaps you could help me change my point of view. Please help me be less pissed off. Perhaps I’m missing something. Maybe I’m seeing things all messed up. I ask you… no, I beg you, please help me adopt a new perspective. I think if anyone can provide me with solid answers to the following questions, perhaps I could be less pissed off. Perhaps there are really great logical answers for these questions which will allow me to stop my current state of distrust, suspicion, caution, irritation, and pissed off-ness (is that a word?) I invite you to research and answer these questions to help me see the light. Please help me understand the answers to a few of these simple questions:
Why aren’t foods containing GMOs simply labeled to have GMOs?
Why do the companies of products that don’t have GMOs have to pay more money to say their products don’t have GMOs?
Why is the food industry so resistant to the public knowing what we are eating?
Why are millions of dollars spent to make sure we DO NOT have the right to know the ingredients in our food?
If GMOs are completely safe, as the food industry wants us to believe, then why does this industry emphatically refuse to simply state their ingredients are made from GMOs?
Why do 50 countries outlaw GMOs?(Yes, it is ILLEGAL to grow or bring GMOs into 50 countries!!!)Why??
Why do 65 other countries require GMO labeling???Why???
Why did Hatti, one of the poorest countries in the world, refuse and BURN the GMO seeds “gifted” to the country by Monsanto?
Why did the country Hungry BURN down an entire field of seeds when they learned it was contaminated by GMOs?
Please research these answers and share with me any information you find. Please give me explanations to these question to help me stop being pissed. If after your investigation, you find you too have found a lack of sufficient answers, then invite you to JOIN me in being pissed off! Join me in being suspicious about the safety and quality of our food. Join in questioning what we are told is true. Above all else, please join in taking complete accountability for everything that goes in and on your body. By avoiding processed foods and buying organic products you can significantly decrease your exposure to questionably harmful chemicals, organisms and “food”.
You still have the power to choose what is healthy for you and family, but you must exercise that power. I believe the best place to start is by getting the right information. Accurate answers and information are out there. They may not be readily available and they may even challenge conventionality. Some answers and information may be inconvenient.
I look forward to receiving answers to the above questions. Answers to these question just might instill in me once again the very distant idea that people matter and special interests and corporations wouldn’t sacrifice our health to make a profit.
